It turns out that verbs can be nouns and vice versa in spanish. For example; preguntar.

keeping them straight
Spanish relies on syntax rather than spelling to differentiate the verb and noun forms. When an article is used you can bet that the form is a noun (because articles refer to nouns; “La pregunta es difícil.”) Alternatively – when there is a subject doing an action – the form is almost certainly a verb (“Ella pregunta mucho.”)
