Taught to me by Naomi and Mal in Prague June 2024.
Deal out the entire deck of cards to all players. Players take turns to place a card face up in the middle of the table. When placing their card players say the next sequential rank, regardless of the card they are placing. If the card placed matches the rank called players race to place their hands on the pile. This is called a snap and the last player to place their hand on the pile of cards takes the entire pile. Snaps also happen when two cards of the same rank are placed in a row and whenever a queen is placed. The winner is the first player to get rid of all their cards.
This game is a lot like Egyptian Rat Screw except players aim to rid themselves of all their cards. Instead of a reward for quick action, as in ERS, players are penalized for being slow to react. Needing to have all players with their hands on the stack lends to a certain amount of synchronization in the game which slows down the pace compared to the frenzied slapping in ERS.
Although I have not seen it played this way I imagine that additional matching rules could be added to the game as in ERS, and that doing so might introduce a need for penalties to discourage players from covering up valid snaps. For example perhaps a penalty in which a player who “snaps” with a card in hand must take the pile.
